What is Sundays at the Stables?

Sundays at the Stables is a weekly equine program for Philadelphia children and teens ages 8–17. Through four cohorts during the 2026–27 school year, up to 80 young people will have the opportunity to experience horses, learn horsemanship, and develop new skills.

Each Sunday, participants step into a welcoming barn environment where they’ll learn to care for horses, try introductory riding, and develop skills in responsibility, teamwork, communication, patience, and leadership.

Participants will learn to groom and tack a horse, muck stalls, safely handle and feed horses, use equipment, and care for the animals entrusted to them. They’ll also explore horse behavior and safety, Equine Assisted Learning, STEM activities, hands-on skills, and careers in the horse industry.

This cohort-based, trauma-informed program makes equine experiences more accessible while helping young people build confidence, strengthen social-emotional skills, and develop positive relationships with adults and peers.

For some participants, Sundays at the Stables will be the beginning of a longer journey through Work to Ride’s Saturday horsemanship and polo program.

Help Make It Possible

For many young people, the opportunity to spend time with horses simply isn’t accessible. Your support helps provide the horses, instructors, equipment, facilities, and experiences that make this program possible.
