Work to Ride Annual Polo Benefit September 16, 2017

The success stories are mounting.  Year after year, the Fairmount Park non-profit program founded in 1994 by Lezlie Hiner, of Mt. Airy, PA, boasts the sports, personal and scholastic achievements of its students.  Featured on HBO sports with Bryant Gumble twice, and several news stories year after year, the proof of the accomplishments achieved at Work to Ride (WTR) can be witnessed at the annual fund raiser and polo match that showcases their riding skills.

The WTR program uses equestrian sports to engage disadvantaged urban youth through constructive activities.  Students, ages 7 to 18, come from low-income families, and must make a serious commitment to working eight hours a week with the horses and must be enrolled in school.  In addition to developing character and learning many life skills, they also learn basic barn chores such as feeding, watering, grooming and cleaning up after horses.

And they learn to ride. The Work to Ride polo team is competitive and riders get to travel. That’s the fun part. Educational goals are supported.  The program encourages scholastic endeavors by paying fees for SAT and ACT testing and for SAT preparatory courses. WTR also helps participants with college selection, organizes college visits and raises money through its scholarship fund to help students pay tuition so they can graduate with as little debt as possible.

The Model for the Country

We invite you to join your local community businesses that support WTR by taking advantage of the many advertising opportunities, silent auction, program advertising, VIP Tent tickets, and Chinese auction. WTR is an original, based outside Philadelphia and has begun to be the model for other similar programs throughout the country.
